  1. no worrys,

the only thing with a saw bench is it can kick off the blade easily and difficult to use with larger planks. It's good for smaller bits of wood though

  2. Alright Josh,

You could do that. Much better though would be to buy a circular saw, screw a straight edge onto your plank and mill 2" by 2" with that. You should be a able to get a circular saw to go up to 4" but if not certainly 3.5". This will be much faster and more accurate. Let me know if this makes sense. If not I'll do some pics for you, cheers, Rob

  3. Cheers Mozza!!

Just a chilled one with me and the missus. 37 now so not long till I draw me pension!

  4. Hi Ian, Yes it is - I'm away at the moment but if you e-mail andy on [email protected] and send your phone number he'll call you back and can get things organised,

    Cheers, rob

  5. Rob can you text me your mobile number? Am still up for looking at this oak tom around 10a.m but can't find your number anywhere!!

    Cheers Rob Dyer

  6. I'm gonna crash Phil. But let me know how you get on with this timber.

  7. Arbtalk is really playing my computer up at the mo!! Go for it Phil I reckon - we've all got to start planking and carving somewhere and I'm sure whatever you make will be good. If it isn't you have so much wood there then try again - the only way you learn. Go on have a go at it. Just give us a PM if you need advice and such but bear in mind I'm no expert!

  8. I can't seem to get into the chat room - says it's full! Phil you want to go for that timber he's got 110%! Lovely oak - you'll come across loads of quirky stuff as you go but this sort of oak bloody hard to come by. Even if you plank it and store it - come back to it later.... Go for it mate. How much does he want for it?

  9. Yeh no worrys phil - give me 20 mins and i'll be there,

    cheers, rob

  10. Hi Ben, Got your order for the grinder. What I'll do is put another couple packs grinding stones in for your 'arbtalk bonus'

    Cheers, Rob

  11. Good stuff! I've got the G721 sawtune and also the precision grinder - have a look here alaskan mill I home of the portable chainsaw mill and I think they're bloody brilliant! And never had a problem with either. The sawtune is a great grinder - I tend to leave the saw in the mill and just sharpen from the one side.

  12. Don't think I'll be able to make it Phil as I've just had 3 weeks off and I'm going to be working my little butt off before Christmas. It's a bit of a hike for me from down in Lymington...

But good on you for organising it and getting it together. I hope it goes well,

    Cheers,Rob

  13. Yeh phil especially with sycamore and beech which is not so good outdoors but goes really hard when it's dry....

    Rob

  14. Where abouts is it and can you get a 12 tonne grab lorry to it? Also when are you thinking of taking it down? Spoke to Tracy and Ian and will be looking at their oaks when I get back off holiday. Thanks for the referral, Rob

  15. I supposes all wood is worth milling if you have a use for it - I suppose it's like her saying 'is it any good for firewood'. The answer would be yes you can burn it but it's not going to be as good as other types of wood!

  16. No worrys Mark. Tell them to give me a call when they're ready and we'll sort the details out, cheers, rob

  17. Hi Pat,

Could be Pat. How long are they? Fresh cut or been drying? How much do you reckon they weigh and where abouts are you?

If you can give us an idea of the dimensions and thickness and condition. Give me a direct mail on [email protected] if it's easier. Thanks, Rob

  18. Hi Steve,

I have just posted a thread ref finding out how much people are charging for a days work and want to use some of the info for an article I am doing. If people give written permission in their posts is this good enough/legal for me to use this info?

Also how much is it to have an advertising banner up (I sell/distribute the Granberg/Alaskan chainsaw mills in the UK).

    Cheers, Rob
