  1. "Doctor, heal thyself!" From bullshine quotation....
  2. Europe Mick, we still have to apply their rules! Changes in the infeed chute were driven by them too!
  3. Sub 750 still exists across the water! Plus, you could add to the mix, physical size for storage, weight off your carrying allowance or MAM, budget, or need. But yes, for years we have fair struggled to keep things below 750 while giving a quality product which will last a few years without the chassis breaking and have a viable chipper that can do a couple of days without needing to be re filled etc!
  4. Sorry, just read my post. I should have put Plant Hire customer reports that he will be unable to hire out anything to anyone and accept a returned machine which has been filled with red but has asked who has the time for these regulations and who is going to enforce them too!
  5. Customer of mine tells that he has had it confirmed that red diesel is shortly to be made unavailable to farmingband fisheries in the very near future. Anyone heard similar?

GreenMech had an outdoor stand at a recycling machinery show at the NEC, I'd gone in to use the bogs and have a wander. There was a huge crowd blocking a cross section of aisles, an exhibitor with a large screen tv had the news on. The silence apart from the odd curse, was very strange......it pretty well ended the show.
  7. I used to roll them up ramps with a few turns around the log to increase the efficiency of the winch. If it starts to run out, a suitably placed chock can "steer" it back. Good job, done well though!
  8. Cannot beat a box of Yorkshire tea, would you get charged extra If I posted a jiffy bag full?
  9. Knocked about with a yoof whose Dad was a gun Smith in the 70's. The parish Church and in particular, the weather vane, must be riddled with 22 holes! The old boy gave us opportunities to shoot (legally too), a variety of bores and styles. Imaging shooting at stalked rabbits with a 9mm automatic pistol, a 303 Bren converted to single shot, a 243 at targets across a couple of fields etc. Shot guns a plenty and revolvers too!
  10. From what I remember from 17 years of overheads starting in the early 80's, some rural areas still had 2, 3, 4 wire overheads along streets/roads and relatively few underground services. Phone lines were, by then, single wire or cable, insulated that didn't need the ceramic insulation or "pots" to carry them. Although, I do recall posts with multiple cross arms and pots carrying copper cables along the side of railway tracks back then. Along a rural road, the GPO/PO still attached the cables to LV Poles but as said, these were insulated and didn't require pots.... Having said that, I do remember an 11kva set up in very rural Leicestershire that had the original wooden cross arms on the posts!
  11. From back in the day of low voltage overheads
  12. Engine power and PTO power can be different. We say 55 - 100 at the shaft is good as we have a rotation changing gearbox. But that is at 540speed. Back in the day, I had an 8" GreenMech on my U1000 Unimog which was tuned to 125hp at the engine which gave ample enough HP when run at 1000speed, ignoring the dash. It was quieter, used less diesel, produced less smoke etc.
  13. Google Chipper Hire South West. Col may be able to help - he is Exeter way.
  14. Intrigued by the twin blade Toro, are they the only units on the market? I don't recall any other makes. Where are Kazz made?
  15. Tad harsh and I not religious in any way. It is more to do with attitude and aptitude that makes a good employee! Sitting in the bog on YouTube on the phone you should have left in the locker, standing talking when you should be working or just ambling about pretending to be lost are not excusable at any level. If someone has to/likes to say a few things to their god at odd times in the day and is a good employee, then let them have those few minutes as long as it generally doesn't upset the flow of graft!
  16. I got a mate who is a rep for Etesia, they have always impressed me too. Once saw an old rep put a brick end on the floor and smash it to dust. Deck survived with a few scars but it still cut. Think they were Kawasaki engines and the crank survived too! Council buy them by the dozen which is a marker on quality and strength too.
  17. Brilliant! Thanks for that......just couldn't get it in the grey matter!
  18. Anyone remember that webpage that would convert an ordinary page into a Snoop Dog shizzle speak?
  19. The one armed chap can be quoted as saying, "I lost an arm, so what, there's work to be done and targets met!". The other lazy bustards would rather sit about and get flat rate rather than pick rate bonus, attendance bonus and be a part of 'the team.
  20. My partner was in a distribution job, through an agency, when the DC asked her to go full time with them, she agreed and found out that she had to be 'brought'! The agency had lost a valuable asset for which they got more money than she did! She is now a team leader, managing a shift crew, half are agency staff and not worth anything.....A one armed, white, British Male has 100% attendance and 105% pick rate while a Muslim from 20 miles away who has to be bused in, isn't 42% pick rate, 3 x 40min toilet breaks, gets lost, cannot read English well and gets the same money... boils my pish!
  21. Honda cost a fair amount and usually for a reason. I would apply 'you get what you pay for ' in the circumstances. Look after it, wash the deck out, do not store fuel in it a d it maybecome a heirloom! List it in your will...
  22. I don't recall the article saying it was team rate or per man? If that is team rate then they'll underpriced the value if it is per man then at they are good capitalists!
  23. An article in the trade press shows that a South Wales local authority have discovered that they have been overcharged on the usual day rate by subbies and have unwittingly paid these and for other service in the Arb sector. Subbies charged the higher rate of £395 instead of the lower rate. Who signed off the invoices and I hope that rate is per person! If it was per team then fair play to them for doing it!
  24. I'd rather it wasn't stolen in the first instance tbh. As a previous post said, chains, wire ropes, hitch locks and covers, wheel clamping and so on might be a faff to fit. But, the chances are that it will be there in the morning.
  25. Many years ago, a client had to attend a safety briefing held by the main contractor of an OHL Contract. Amongst the briefs was a short subject on the subject of going to the loo in the absence of a local public loo, garage or suitable supermarket. After the keynote speaker had highlighted the subject of letting other team members know what and where etc, waterless hand cleaner, disposal blah blah blah. Someone asked for the procedure if there was a lady on the team? The sudden consternation, realisation and confusion was epic to see! Women's doings in an Arb environment had overcome their commonsense! On another note....how do you tell the front from the back of a tree? "Some cuffer's took a dump behind this on!"
