  6. "she had a face like slapped arse!"
  7. Lass worked in our office before going to US of A. Her dad :welds for us, bro also in factory, related to John Bonham somehow. Cool to tell the grankids.thrasher:
  8. "She fell out the Ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down"
  9. Some of my favourite one liners include "you cannot polish a turd" " I'll buy that for a dollar" " I'll bet half a dollar, that's like a horses collar" (left to the male imagination) "she'd look good in a pearl necklace" "Look at the VW bonnet on that!" "Fook, I bet that hurt!"
  10. as Mike said, there is a place for petrol machines, the choice variables include, your budget, residual value, hours to be worked, type of work, expectations (longevity v px value). As Mike will confirm, a petrol machine can attract very few bids when the time to upgrade arrives. If you can afford a diesel - go for it! Good Luck
  11. Yes, yes, yes. We've all heard of the Audi Le Mans cars, racing trucks and the cummins powered dragster. The JCB is a good tool etc etc etc. Fantastic, all of them. However, they are the exception to the rule. If I was still on the tools, I doubt that I would have entertained a petrol chipper whilst my arse pointed downwards. Deisels are still more reliable, less moving parts, stronger and cheaper to run.
  12. Mike has a valid point on the diesel/petrol arguement. However, petrol is afterall more explosive than diesel, whoever heard of a diesel dragster or F1 car. There is a place for the more refined stuff in machinery but storing the fuel, carrying spare fuel and pilfering do matter. For a show special I would love to see a medium sized chipper with a buggeroff big V8. But seriously, it may be possibly to build a 6"er with turntable, diesel and skinny weight that lasts. The ring is the chassis. The "low end user" might prefer to be called the "occasional" user or "less frequent" user. Low end gives me the impression that Mike has a low opinion of these worthy people.
  13. How about a side (pavement) fed and diesel engine, single axle, sub 750kg, but built better than Mike would think.
  14. Do you (collective) think that a sub 750kg six inch machine on a turntable would be any good?

    RIP Noel Jnr

Again, I did not know the guy. Deepest sympathies to his family and friends. A loved one missing really hurts. A work mate not there upsets the team. Best wishes to all those who knew the man.

    Saltex

Well, who went to Saltex, what did you see, what did you enjoy. Is it worth going to, did any buy anything? Got any gossip? Who's stand did you visit? Tell all!!!

I never went when I was in the trees. 1st time I got to go was with GM, if mowers are your thang - they you'll be in heaven, I thought a mower made long grass short. Forsooth, that is an insult! I never knew that there was so many grass cutters available. There is a fair amount of arb kit there, mainly chippers and grinders with some demos of climbing techniques and so on. TW usually have some half decent eye candy whilst us others have machines to impress you, or just idle chat and war stories to swap. Have a good one.
  18. Hi Steve Mine are 8 and 10. Great Fun, We've been to castles all over the place, walks in Peak Park, Devon coast (n and s), Malverns, Leicestershire and anywhere. Daughter is a bit fed up with motor racing circuits and drag racing but you cannot have everything! Best wishes PeterB
  19. Welcome Nick Nice to have a wise guy on board. How's t'Peak District. Cheers PeteB
  20. What is it with boys and their toys? Me, I need something that will truly annoy the ex-wife and give me and the kids two black stripes outside her fellas place to say "I've got over it and I've a new mistress that does it for me when I need it!
  21. Some like us some, some don't. I personally see merit in some other chippers, but there are those that I would not give yard space to!!! I've tried many, pre and since I've been with GM and my previous comments stand. CHOICE IS PERSONAL. FACT IS STRAIGHT UP, FICTION IS FOR bULLsHINERS AND SMALL BOYS!
  22. Pint pot or wine glass, either will do. Spanners, they don't have the same effect, but can bring a certain amount of joy!
  23. I'm a "shopkeeper" to quote a previous thread. Before that I was in the trees for only 17years. My family was felling by hand in the early 1900's and two of my uncles followed the path, one was tushing by hoss whilst still at the village school in the late '30s. T'other was killed in a crane accident in the '50s. I brought the crane by accident in the '80s and was obliged to cut it for scrap. Many of the North West Leicester and Staffordshire coalmines are propped up by Elm felled, tushed and converted by David Barrowcliff in the 50's, 60's and early 70's.
  24. I like the comment about the bodge tape on the anvil!!! If there is any play in the bearings the machine could well end up making an expensive noise. Leave the bodge tape for dodgy wiring.
