  1. I've found the best throwline for not tangling to be 150ft Weaver 2mm used with 16oz throwbags stored in one of Sherrils cubes.
  2. Is that true? Surely the weight and wheel setup would make them a sh*t offroader? Maybe a better towing vehicle though? Roller, whats wrong with Transits? I've only ever used the older shaped ones, are the new ones sh*t?
  3. Hope you store them under lock and key at night? If criminals cant steal your chipper they'll probably pour the contents of the combi-cans on the chipper and set it alight!
  4. I used to have a Hi-lux, prefer the Nissan to be honest. I dont like the newer Nissan Navara though, Although the Pathfinder is a cool vehicle. The Hi-lux is just too pricey for work. I'll probably buy a Transit next, fit chip box and tool boxes etc.. But keep the Nissan for towing my trailer and storing tools.
  5. I visited this Ash in the summer, gave the church a quote, never heard back from them, tried to phone them a couple of times.........nothing. Just got a call yesterday to go ahead with the removal!!! In the quote I wrote I could get it down to ground level. I regret writing that now......I'm not sure how I'm gonna do this. I've done big removals in graveyards before, but its not the crown thats the problem as you can see. I kinda feel a wee bit sorry for the person whose buried there. This is a classic example of re-active tree management! Any thoughts on what to do regarding the grave area/ground level would be appreciated.
  6. Thanks for the info on adsper/applan.
  7. Nice scotspine Raaf! Re - oak fell - yes, in the future will put more rope/chains on stems to stop rolling.
  8. Steps 1. - Directional notch made 2 - Boring back-cut placed slightly high marginally overlapping the top of the directional notch, leaving one of those invisible hinges we all know only too well. 3 - Strap breaking back-cut severes holding section of wood allowing stem to be pulled over. Any comments would be good.
  9. About 78% I'd say, if we didn't have the stem tied up at the butt end the glasshouse would have been demolished. I was pulling the stem over with the pickup - I moved forward just enough to take it past the centre of gravity then got out to watch - I'm not kidding the top of the stem hit the subsurface rock and the whole thing bounced about 10ft in the air heading straight for the glasshouse! It was one of those situations where you just watch helplessy.
  10. The best thing about the pickup/canopy is not having the fumes from the combi-cans in the cab like in a Landcruiser/Patrol/Landrover etc. I also run a short-wheel based Diahatsu Fourtrack, and even with the combi cans shut tight the fumes can be hell on long drives. Here's a shot of the ladders on the canopy.
  11. I posted this in the maintenance forum as I have seen many a tool ruined by being thrown in the back of Transits, Canters etc truckbeds/chipboxes after jobs. This was my solution to the problem - a pickup dedicated to arb tools. The shelves on the right were homemade in a couple of hours. They keep the saws from getting beaten up rolling around in the pickup bed. I've also fitted hooks for jackets/hardhats and made holders for loppers and felcos/Silkys etc. I also fitted a ladder rack on the roof of the canopy. Anyway....just an idea for carrying tools.
  12. lol!! yeah, uk arborists love stuff like that, I was sad to see it go.
  13. They decided it had to go, they're going to put a summer house right where the stumps are.
  14. Not sure that's gonna fly with the husband.......
  15. This was a Beech stump I was asked to look at recently, when I arrived I was amazed at the Ganoderma brackets, not sure if its applanatum or adspersum? I dont know how you tell them apart. The tree was removed about 8 years ago. Ganoderma must live off roots for years, these brackets had the fresh undersides with spores covering everywhere. I think the stump is cool feature, so does the woman, her husband hates it. They were concerned about fungi spreading, reclaiming the area for another feature etc. The stump is still surprisingly solid for Beech even after all this time. What do you reckon? leave or remove?
  16. The Republic of Ireland has gone from rural based economy to new tech based economy in 20 years, massive funding from European grants and loans, also huge investment from US companies, always something interesting to visit, beautiful countryside. Check out Cork and Dublin. Meanwhile in Northern Ireland - Trying it's best to shake off the legacy of the troubles, Was in Belfast a few months back for a wedding, couldn't believe the change. Its a great place. You'd find the South (Republic) a bit different from the North(UK). But its all good.
  17. Got any photos of the Daily? is it just the regular single cab tipper, or do you have tool boxes/chip box/crewcab etc? I was thinking of getting one.
  18. Maybe you should switch to de-caf?

    Query

23 trees between 90 and 120ft? impossible to give a definative answer without seeing the job in person, but £1400 sounds way too low. I'd be looking at somewhere between £4500 and £9000 probably more if they are that big and all the branches are to be removed £1400 is too cheap.
  20. Reliant Ant - Wow!
  21. Your maid let me in..... Wouldn't mind one of these for X-mas.....
  22. Genuinly? I want a living room like this.....with the view. I live in flat that is in a state of constant repair and always patching up the roof etc.
  23. This is the other option we're looking at for small jobs....apparently they make a tipping chip box for it.
  24. I'm not 100% sure about the reliability of the vehicle, reverse gear was a problem sometimes. I even had to ask this nice lady to help push it back up a hill I was trying to reverse up just after I'd had sold the willow.
  25. Thanks MB. Sometimes when I'm at a loose end and have no work, I go down the street and try to sell leftover trees. I had the white version out on demo the day I sold these two idiots a willow, I asked them to be in the photo for scale....its quite a big vehicle really.
