  2. Hi Treegeek. The Secret Life of Trees is absolutely fascinating! I recommend it to anyone who loves trees. I think it would be very useful to anyone currently studying arb as it describes alot of the science behind trees from an arb's point of view, rather than a scientist's.
  3. Seems a strange year for trees in general. Robinias are allready dropping leaves. I've got Acers and Aralias that are sposed to be green with yellow autumn colour, but are bright red at the mo! Roots seem fine. My birches and oaks have done sod all this year aswell. Can't help but think the lack of sun has affected the physiology....
  4. Was a land surveyor for too long, needed some excitement- found it climbing trees with chainsaws. Went to Merristwood and discovered how cool trees are.
  5. I was told by an old forester that they used the cut to prevent the core from pulling out as the tree fell
  6. Enjoyed that, nice one Masterblaster
  7. Have used the Teupen machines- 22 and 30m. Found to be reliable and manoeverable. The 30m had excellent reach and was surprisingly stable at full extension. Both are tracked so easy to get into position.
  8. Cutting the back of this dead oak to aid the felling..
  9. Hey Treesurfer, not sure if you have 'The Principles of Tree Hazard Assessment' (from the same series as 'Body Language of Trees'). It is one of the most comprehensive arb books there is.
  10. those are really good treesurfer, nice one.

    Morals.

Buzz and Anna should be commended for their professionalism and the fact they care. Just hope the tree officer has the time to take some action....
  12. The tree is in Windsor Great Park Blue. There is loads of them!

    Nptc

The best Nptc I have taken is Winblow, CS34. Of course it depends on the individual instructor as to what you take from a course- have has some awful instructors! Felling and climbing have obvious danger, but with winblows the danger may not be as apparent.
  14. Has anyone taken the LANTRA professional tree inspection course and exam. I took it in April and failed it. I found the written test had some oddly worded questions and the tree inspection test was just down to the individual's opinion. I would be interested to hear other's opinions.

Very well said Mr Ed, couldn't agree with you more.
  16. This is a good one- The Secret Life of Trees by Colin Tudge. It is very detailed and talks a lot about trees of the world. (Haven't finished it yet so will let you know).
  17. This is amazing though.... Get your t/r ratio from that!
  18. How sad is this? Tree is still alive though...
  19. This is one of the first treework vids I saw and it inspired me immensley.
  20. Thought this was cool- a beech and oak supporting themselves-
