  1. Clay soil can sometimes be alkaline also. In that case you need to put gypsum on.
  2. I don't know if this counts but this tractor was mine for a few years. It's a Cat D-5, 26X. I used it when I farmed. Loved it. It had a Cat 3306 non-turbo engine, 6-speed tranny. The speeds were 1/2 mph apart. When I went broke farming my Dad bought it from me and put a bulldozer blade on it and gave it to my BIL who took it to Idaho for work on a cattle ranch that he owns part of. He and my Sis are now getting divorced, so I would like to go steal it back, but going to jail is not really my cup of tea.
  3. Yeah, makes my heart race just looking at them.
  4. Not me. Right above where stood to take the picture there were primary electric wires, under them secondary wires, with cable TV/telephone wires on the same poles under the electric wires. That's why I couldn't use my bucket.
  5. This was a tight access job last week for my SIL at her rental.
  6. Sorry about that JamesW. The rainy season here is from Nov. to Mar. and we get about 12" average. Malibu has beautiful summers because their proximity to the ocean keeps it from getting too hot.
  7. Not sure if you can view this video or not in the mother country but here it goes. My Nephew plays the Dobro for Josh Turner and he was on the David Letterman show here the other night. 8. They are liquidambars or american sweetgums. They will not likely be replaced soon as the current manager of the apartment complex just sees trees as a nuisance.
  9. These are some pictures of a set of ramps I made to load my John Deere into the dump trailer. My old ramps got stolen so I decided this time I would make them to slide up under the trailer. They are locked in place when not in use by those spring loaded pins. (Brendon's idea)
  10. I would say between 8 and 9 thousand pounds. Never sign anything that doesn't make you money. My Dad taught me that.
  11. We have a similar program here. You buy a stamp that has a CA for california and a 050 for Stanislaus County then a individual number identifying you. It is done through the Farm Bureau. It won't keep your stuff from getting stolen of course but there is about a 10% chance of it being recovered and if it is then the Police can notify you. Although I like your system better garry.
  12. Brendon will your winch freewheel out or power out?
  13. Here is a couple of pictures of my exciting stump hauling. The neighbor raises almonds and back in October a bunch of his trees blew over. Another neighbor cut the firewood and the farmer dug out the stumps and as we can't burn anymore he wanted me to get rid of them for him. I hauled them to a place where they will be put through a tub grinder and the chips used for bedding for dairy cows.
  14. I don't think I've posted these before. These were poplars which had been topped a long time ago. Had 3 of them to fall and dispose of and 4 more to just fall and leave. Some had barbed wire in them also.
  15. The storm was actually a reminant of typhoon Melor that hit the Philipines and Japan about a week before. Part of it got up in the jet stream and came all the way across the Pacific Ocean and hammered us. I had no idea they could even do that. The winds were about 30 mph from the south with gusts up to 50 mph and we got 2" of rain. It lasted about 24 hours. We normally get some of these storms in the winter but by then the trees are dormant and it doesn't do much to them.
  16. Here are a few pictures from some storm jobs we had a while back. The first one I quoted but never got the job. Second one was a Modesto Ash that we took down the next week. The rest of the pictures were at the same house and we took down the split tree and some other stuff also.
  17. Not sure if there would any complications with you being overseas or would even be revelant but the University of Oregon has internet courses. Welcome -- Oregon State University -- Extended Campus -- Ecampus as does North Dakota Online Campus :: Dakota College at Bottineau
  18. Here is a dead Maple tree from earlier in the week.
  19. Did you have a cell phone with you?
