I'm from Swansea, but have been working in Hampshire for the past few month. I am experienced in roadside (local authority) and garden work I have also felled forestry stands and have dismantled several large trees. In my last company, I was the only person with NPTC's, so had to run the show, day to day; helping my boss to quote some jobs and decide how to best fell and take down mature specimens. I also purchased and inspected their climbing equipment. The company I currently work for are called 'Cannon Horticulture'. They run Hampshire and West Berkshire's highway contracts and manage some of the parks. We work weekends and work long hours in the week, as we are on callout every day and I also take part in the 24 callout rota. Although I don't have my cs39, I will be sitting the test soon, I have been climbing for nearly 3 years and cutting with the 200t every day for 2. I also take an active interest in industry developments and am studying for my Royal Forestry Society Certificate in Arboriculture. I currently have a Forestry NVQ: Level 2. you're not allowed to climb if the bird is nesting, but sometimes you just can't tell. Why punish us if we can't help it?

How about hitting a nest out or hitting a pigeon with a throwline? We can't exactly spend time waiting to see if there's any regular feeding activity going on, can we. And what if the tree is dangerous (e.g. heaved over a highway)?

I wouldn't harm them, but I hate it when the chicks are in the nest and their stupid little craney neck are thrusting out to try an peck you. It angers me, but I just leave them in peace. I have, however, hit two nesting pigeons with the throwbag this year. I can't help it if I can't see them, can I. As for not pruning because of the nesting season; what do they suggest we do instead. Should farmers keep their flails off the hedges at this time of year, too?

I think it's because the designers are obsessed with body-mechanics and ergonomics. The claims I've heard excite me greatly, as I consider working with your body's natural flow (as opposed to fighting against it) to be paramount in avoiding injury and physical stress. The fact that the harness is built with this principal in mind makes it the clear choice for me. Abacus industrial safety equipment are selling it, but is it actually available?

I'm on the verge of buying one. Any rants or raves to sway me?
