thats what it was supposed to look like carl! and yes ed in fact there is one there haha the bottom needs shaping ideally, i wasnt happy with the uneveness of it but was told just to cut what we could with a hedgecutter.

good points peter, specially the last one. i saw the arb trucks at the AA that had chip boxes and platforms....they looked very nice but all truck body builders seem to forget the more junk you stick on a chassis the less payload you end up with. best off a tool for each job

i'd imagine a pole rescue would be quite a challenge, particularly for a student

I thought it might be helpful for people taking their aerial rescue if we discuss the assessment and criteria. Its been a few years since i did mine and i forget whats require(plus its all probably changed by now) When i did mine we did 2 rescues....one aided, one unaided. the guy i was working with today mentioned theres a pole rescue included now also. maybe someone can confirm this and we can discuss the various techniques from there.

i dont recall looking at those saws but i do remember seeing a guy with an oriental looking lady under a mini pagoda selling something or other...was that where you got it?

one my my books calles those lines "zones of antagonism" and suggests its where 2 different fungi meet.....ive only ever read this in 1 book and so im not sure how accurate it is

i think it was just the wording........what a consultant is probably saying is the saphrophytic fungus is not going to kill a tree so is less important, from a climbing point of view however it is very significant

Ive suggested it on occassion but not had any takers.....i think its something thats hard to sell, much like root feeding etc....if people cant see it they tend not to be bothered about spending money on it. just my view. not sure if id want to get involved with that side of things though personally.

i know a climber who advocates hanging the chainsaw from the secondary low d's. i tried it but personally didnt get on with it, althout it is more comfortable, you dont feel the weight of the saw at all as its redorected straight through your bridge through to your climbinging system perhaps give that a try. other than that i dont understand why you cant move the saw absolutely anywhere. i saw a pic rup posted at the buzz where hes clipping the saw onto a shackle attached to the leather portion. heres rupes pic http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/images/upload/92491-x.jpg -
i dont like it but at the same time understand the reasoning behind it and am sticking with it. i do like the way i can run it behind me and use it on the left side aswell without running out of lanyard, but dislike the factt hat i need a longer lanyard in the first place to use it.
