Your opinions on new type of 'chipper'

Hey guys,

I'd like to get a litle bit of feedback and opinion on a very interesting machine I'm talking with a manufacturer about.

Imagine a 'chipper' that you feed your brash into, anything up to 6" dia, but instead of chipping it into tiny little chips, it chops it all into 4 - 6" pieces of firewood and kindling.

It would have 2 discharge options, either a conveyor that chucks it all in the back of your truck, or a dual bagging unit, for pre bagging of all material.

It would be small, under 750kgs, VERY powerfull feed action, very simple and would process the brash as quickly as a conventional chipper.

The difference is a firewood product rather than wodchips.

Your opinion?

If it's small and taking bigger bites then surely there would be alot of stress on the thing and it would destroy it's self very quickly ! What about all the material that's to small for firewood or needles and leaves etc.....

Sounds good for a yard machine, not necessarily for taking to tree jobs. I have a yard full of poplar that would be ideal for kindling, the trouble is most of it is over six inch as that is all thats left after normal chipping.

Is there such a thing as a kindling press for rings of wood?

I have heard of people trying to produce this type of material using a large drum chipper with either a very large screen or with the screen removed, the finished product is a mixture of wood from 6" lumps to dust, are you thinking of using a disk type cutter or a drum?
