I think a 3120 or 088 would be a tad too much for flush-cutting a stump now and then.

Stefan, you know I run a Stump bizz too and was in the same situation.

My final choice was a dolly 7910.

Nearly 6hp drag virtually any chain, it's a bit heavier than a comparable stihl but as it only lowers a stump from time to time I can live with a few grams more.

While it's about half the price of the stihl!

If I was a feller, maybe the stihl is the favourite, as you need to save any weight, but as a stumper?

In addition you may have jobs where you got to flush 30 stumps around 20", because the owner's brother was afraid to cut that low and dull his chain. I would not want to drag a 088 around the whole property.

As you cut stumps, you will ruin your chain every few stumps because of little stones and dirt that are close to the ground or behind the bark. So probably you don't want to have a very long bar, because sharpening will take a while or is expensive.

I'm very happy with the 50cm bar on my 7910, the short chain is quite fast to sharpen, cheap to replace, races through wood and the cubes you cut from those giant stumps (because 50cm is to short there) are not too heavy and you can carry them out of your way.

Using a 3120/088 with a 90cm bar will get you nowhere, heavy to carry around, expensive to purchase, endless amount of teeth to sharpen and the pieces you cut from the big ones weight more than you.

I think your current Stihl is not the worst choice.

good luck

Much the same as my train of thought! A big old reliable lump that is half the price and less likely to get stolen as well! Heavy saws are harder to run off with, much like fat people are harder to kidnap! Stay safe - eat pies!:thumbup1:
