MS661 now?

I have noticed this with Stihl Mtronic, there is a "choke" setting and a "run" setting and no fast idle so if you miss that pop on the choke setting or don't get to the throttle in time, it floods.

I tried starting a MS261 in the run position and the bloody thing kick-backed violently and put it down to the ignition being in the fully advanced position rather than a retarded starting setting.

Looks like the guy in the field has come up with another fix for a lack of correct design!

Pretty sure the start position automatically goes from full choke to fast idle once it's popped.

Same as the new 201.

Set it to start. Keep pulling and it will cough, and after that start at fast idle.

Then blip the throttle to set it to run.

661 is a beast. Iv used both 395 and 660 for years, was in the market for my own larger saw. Was going to get a 395, then I used a 661 belonging to a client. Had a 36inch bar on it, cutting dead red gum (very hard wood) & the saw refused to bog down. Very torquey. So i bought a 661.

I will say it takes a few tanks of juice to come good. Tunes itself over the course of a few tanks i think
