How did you get into the firewood business?

Still haven't got around to laying the pipework to the clubhouse to heat that from the boiler either, although I'm now more inclined just to whack a woodburning stove in there instead, if I can source some firewood.....

If our experience of altering the original application of your RHI is anything to go by, even though it was all applied for originally just connected up over time, don’t change it it’s not worth the hassle!

They just continually keep asking for more information, 4 months in with no payment currently!

Yes somebody else has said that to me. We get through tier one anyway on drying wood so it is almost not worth the time/money/effort so I don’t think we will. Far easier just to put a log burner in there.

I changed the bank details on ours... the most painstakingly drawn out process I’ve ever been involved in. No payments for 6 months and the people you speak to at Ofgem are on a different planet.

Thats appalling! Should be a 10 minute phone conversation, maybe send in copies of ID to prove it’s still you and then back on track with it.
No wonder the country is so in debt. Couldn’t administer a paracetamol without it costing the tax payer half a billion quid!

Firewood came by accident, then I started doing woodland management taking the timber for payment, forging relationships with local woodland owners including local councils & buying timber at less-than-market rates or from site clearances where contractors were chipping on site or burning everything.
Based on a farm, all timber is processed & stored in vented crates, vented bulk bags or heavy duty stillage cages.
Went down the accreditation route as well - this has helped immensely with sales & marketing. Our firewood is now Grown in Britain Assured, HETAS Woodsure & HETAS Ready to Burn Accredited.

Sold a few bags so far this winter, not enough to make a living but with the slow down in tree work running up to Christmas, it brought in some much needed cash. Its not the most professional looking operation at the moment, logs are stored loose and loaded into ton bags in the van, room for two bags and a couple of skids to help slide them out, same idea with the trailer.
