Golden Robinia care help!

Hi all!

 

After recently moving into my new place I have been informed that the Golden Robinia in my garden could be problematic.

 

It's a healthy beautiful looking tree about 25 ft tall but is only about 8 foot from house foundations and only about 6 ft from drainage.

 

I have been told suckering is possible and the root systems can be a real problem.

 

My question is, will I have to lose the tree or will some form of maintenance such as topping the tree be appropriate and acceptable? Will topping the tree inhibit root growth and how often will I have to do this? Just after best advice really.

 

Any info or advice gratefully received!

Interesting stuff eggsarascal. Thanks for the links. So it seems that the best solution would be to use as few pipe joints as possible when using modern plastic pipework or to sink your drains over 10m down (unlikely in the UK)!

Have you ever sleeved drains to resolve issues like this?

When I worked for Anglian Water we used to line/sleeve sewers, it works well. How long it lasts I couldnt tell you. some tree roots produce 12 bar, it's a lot of pressure on pipe work that is installed to take gravity flow.

How were they lined? Fiberglass or pvc? What was the process?

Hah. Cheers people. I'm going to see if i can find a more reputable guy to prune and chop it and advise on potential issues with the drains and foundations.

 

Hopefull yit's all goos news but if not, as much as I love the tree, I love keeping the thousands of pounds in repair works by a muuuuuuch gretaer magnitude

And ignore the poor spelling - quick typo hands and typos are more acceptable than the beat down I would have got if the missus called "Dinner!!!!" for the fourth time...
