It uses a electrical charge sensor to pick up when the blade touches some thing that absorbs the signal. Or some thing like that.

Thats amazing!!

 

i worked as a bench joiner for three years and saw many lads lose fingers on table saws. lets hope this technology can be applied to more than just bench saws in the future -i also saw a guy take the end of his finger of with an electric planer, much more messy!!!
