Can I ask why you are doing this?

 

Good question, I'm far from sure that change will be an "upgrade" on a saw that weak. It might in some conditions though?

I can see that a chain that lasts longer and is not so fiddly to sharpen, would be a good thing. But I've wondered the same thing. I know someone with a 171, who runs the std. fitted chain. And while its up to the very occasion fell of small stuff, for anything over 100mm its underpowered.

1.7 cc more and our 181 didn't bog down in bar length oak

Small saws are stupid. You should all stick with a minimum of a 460 on the ground or you're a sissy and won't be allowed to wear vest tops to work any more. Meanwhile, I'll stick with looking a poof with my 170 and enjoy my elbows and shoulders for years to come.

Try a 63PMM chain semi chisel, longer "tween" sharpening"s in diry/rough wood.
