An update on the alternative to Honda situation - don't buy Chinese, at least not the Evo420, it didn't last 2 months. I hope that yours is doing a bit better Redmoosefaction.

I've had a Subaru engine on the machine for a few months now and can recommend these.

:) true, at least for a few years.

The Subaru is good quality and should last. The cost of both engines still come in less than one Honda but what I have learnt is that the down time of frequently replacing the crap engines should be factored into the decision of which engine.

It started doing the same as the old Honda engine - lack of power, smoking, back firing, then it wouldn't start at all.

The trouble with these engines strapped to pedestrian grinders is that they often work at extreme angles. I made sure that the engine oil was always topped up but i guess that these cheaper engines are much less tolerable to working like this than a Honda or equivalent.

Yea splash lube is no good if you are at angles . Got to be a pressure fed system . Honda or otherwise .
