mowing large areas of grass

Looking for a ride on mower capable of cutting large areas of grass such as sports fields. Gang mower behind tractor is not really practical as i would ideally like to move small john deere ride on an push mowers staff etc to site in 1 go, i know Hayter used to make a cylinder mower with 4 gang on it if i remember rightly

The hayter probably had 5 cylinders 4 you can see plus one underneath.

Ransomes do the same.

These 5 gangs eat the grass at about 8.5 acres an hour.

Another choice is a 3 gang which would be more versatile and still do about 5 acres an hour.

Toro have started making the big hayters now as they own the brand now I think

Just been looking on Hayters website, think your right they dont seem to make any ride ones anymore, the toro mowers i have used were shite!

John deere f1145 ride on mower or its big brother 1445 are both great robust ride on mowers.

Does it have to be cylinder ive cut football pitchs with rotorys before as long as they have a roller

i think you get a much better finish with cylinder.

Out front mower with trimax flails leave a good finish plus has the benefit of using it in the thick stuff too

I was just suggesting as although they give a better cut they areleast versatile anything with rollers will give a fair finish and as said flails can be very good plus rotarys and flails can go through rough ground better

For large areas outfront deck is a winner if lots of obstacles zero turn

Kubota are always a good chooice

I also watch some people on a mower and they just waste time unles you want the striping its far more efficient to cut in blocks like you would a hay mower unless you can get on to the next run in one easy turn no reversing

Reversing is a massive time waster

Toro pro are sold under Toros name.

Jacobsen is part of textron as is ransomes.

I've got 2 Toro ride on cylinder mowers. Both good machines.

But the ransomes parkway I've got beats them both hands down.

It cuts both long grass and short grass. By long I mean it will cope with up to 6 inches comfortably. And not leave a horrible mess behind(unless it's wet through)

I'd have a ransomes commander(5 gang) if I had room to store it.

hayter t424 is a 5 gang. A large firm I sub to uses them but the newest they have is a 57 plate.

 

As long as the sites aren't too horrendous a cylinder would be the best bet.
