Forestry is it worth doing?

Recommended Posts

This week see,s our first truck load of softwood sold this summer, not even had enquiries about hardwood. So we,ve stopped cutting as it,s a waste of time and money to cut it then be unable to sell it and then it,s stacked at roadside drying out loosing money, at least all our machines are paid for and our premises which makes the hard times easier. Is it just us that,s struggling to sell timber or is it difficult for you to?

Won't euroF snap it up? Less £ sure but I just factor worst case £ in and then atleast the wood will move...?

But I know what you mean, it's not good in timber currently. Atleast your kit is bought and paid for. Longing for that day myself, rather than just working for the bank. That makes for sleepless nights I can tell you.

Hi GG we only have softwood at the moment, Spruce hope to be back in some hardwood in September. Got 50 ton of 3 meter Spruce 8inch/16inch approx roadside at Haltwhistle, we have 300 tons still to fell, we can cut to spec for log cabins and roundhouses.

Also at Crook co. Durham we have 50 ton of nice straight larch still to fell 10/20inch and plenty of smaller Larch as well 6/10inch 100tons.

Hi JH i,ll give Euro F a try.

Been thinking of using some spare money to buy a couple of secondhand machines while theres lot,s for sale and some cheap, ready for when times get better.

I'd try the biomass market for the smaller softwood, you could try Parkend farms nd see if they want a few wagons or I'll try find you a number for a bloke near me who is doing 1000's tons a year at moment unless busy daddy's along soon as he chips for most people around here nd would probably know someone who wants it.

Hardwood try the log company Nr Richmond as they do some serious amount a year.
