Just picked up a new 550XP. Fantastic saw. Absolutely love it so far. Heard you can upgrade the bar and chain on these? Is this the case? Any suggestions and info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers [emoji106]🏻

Get a 13 or 15" Sugi bar and stihl chain and you'll be a happy wood cutter

I would prefer the bar to be a 16" and the chain to be Oregon LPX.

LPX is a little faster and smoother in the cut than Stihl RS/RSC, even though the difference is small.

I'd say a 16" is too nose heavy on this saw.

A 15 balances nicely but a 13 gives just that little faster chain speed.

Have run both lpx and bpx and feel they run better in hardwoods on bpx or stihl semi chis.

If your bashing softwoods all day then a full chis flys.

Use LPX most of the time. Only use BPX if I know there'll be a lot of dirty wood. If not, it's just quicker with LPX and if there's grit/soil, a quick touch-up with a file and it's ready again.
