Ball nuts sheared off

Well bolts, had this happen today, the bolt sheared right off and left only one. luckily I wasn't going far and not tearing down a bouncy country lane. Was towing 3 tonnes worth of digger and trailer.

Does anyone think that having the drop plate on the lowest setting could be a contributing factor?

The further down the greater leverage so makes sense it contributed. How much would be6hard to know. Lucky escape really because your break away cable is attached to the part that would have snapped off. A 3 tonner on a plant trailer would have made a mess at 20mph+

Yer my thought was it was a leverage issue. Not sure how to combat that short of welding the whole back plate on.

I've always been a advocate to the lads of putting breakaway cable on to a Independent point on the vehicle.

I should listen to my own advise

A simple plate with some gussets ( we like gussets :) ) like the one Mick Dundee repaired on Al`s 18 tonner will do the job.
