G30 chip is 30mm, don't know why they've used cm rather than mm as the unit of measurement on your table.

Chip is cheaper than pellets and simpler especially if you have your own wood. If you want g30 chip you just need to have a screen to make sure that any big stuff gets chipped again.

 

If you think of the chipper as part of the installation costs it doesn't seem so bad, it's what we did originally but as others have said you can save money and hassle with breakdowns etc by hiring one In.

 

Our heizohack will chip 10-15 cube an hour but that's a relatively small chipper conpared to what you can hire in.

Biggest problem you will face if you buy your own chipper is its a very steep learning to set it up for the best production and quality. A small boiler will be very susceptible to poor quality chip and you probably will get a lot of feed problems. Muzmax produces one of the best quality chip samples I have seen if you really are going down that road.

We have had many different chippers chip for us and believe me if the machine is not set right it makes a big difference in quality and quantity.

Sounds like you have pretty much the same setup, how do you find it ? Much day to day hassle with the boiler ? would you mind sharing which one you went for ?

We've got an evoworld 199kw boiler. Had no issues except for cracked fire bricks which were about £1000 to replace after 3 years but no other major issues.

 

we use about 200 tons a year which we chip ourselves and have only had 2 easily fixable blockages. We only get a couple of barrels of Ash a year.

 

Our chip is dried so that makes a big difference. Boilers generally need less than 20% moisture content but you can go a bit more. We found it struggled to light above 30a%.

For a setup that small just buy a small chipper like a TP175, TP's make a nice quality small chip and they have sliver breakers. You will be restricted in terms of the girth that it can chip but if you're growing your own and chipping up to around 8" it would be perfect. They also make a 10" machine. You will probably only be burning 50 ton a year so going crane fed probably isn't worth it. Use your tele handler with a muck grab to handle the timber, stick it right next to the chipper and fire it through. A couple days work with 2-3 men should see you a years supply...

Ours is used to dry wood for our firewood business so it's more than most would need. We have a customer with one like you're looking at who we chip wood for every month or 2 straight into the hopper for , all they do is store the logs in a shed on an old trailer for a month before so they're dry enough.

 

If you want electric have you looked into chp, combined heat and power, boilers. I think they're probably too big for your needs but there might be something reasonable available now.
