Ifor Williams tipper batteries

Hi , ive got a few good (and money saving !) tips on here by times . The battery on my Ifor 12 x 6 6 tipper is gone , obviously if i go to an Ifor dealer i will pay top whack .

What commercial or agricultural battery would do the same job , or can it be wired to tip directly from the jeep .

Truth be told it has never been impressive on the tipping front , it would struggle with 1.5 Tonne , is this the norm ?

mine is wired from the vehicle battery using a anderson plug (175amp) and tips anything i put in it!! Its a simple thing to sort just need welding wire 16mm2, crimps, cut out switch ,anderson plug and cable crimp for making the cables, think i paid about £70

Or run a decent quality high amp hour deep cycle battery, split charge system on your motor to keep it topped up.

 

It is an inexpensive set up to rig, battery maybe £80, split charge system maybe another £35, that will only charge the aux battery when your truck I'd showing over 13v or so.

 

These charge setups conect direct to the truck battery, not the alternator, so it won't bother your ecu into throwing a code.

 

If your interested I can fetch links to the parts, and give a diagram of wiring, it is very simple, just a big relay, one like your tipping relay, wired in to the truck batt, in cable capable of the charge load, and fused at source,conected to your trailer batt.

this relay controlled by a load sensitive relay, which is voltage adjustable , so the system activates when your truck battery is receiving a charge, and is full.

Thanks very much for the feedback guys excellent as usual . Until i catch up wit the guy who does my auto electrics i probably may just buy a battery .

The one in it is 320 mm x 220 mm x 160 mm with threaded poles , anyone know what these are called (as in type of battery ) , and is there a reason they havent normal terminals ?

We have threaded posts on our golf buggy batteries. My guess it's a deep cycle or traction battery take your pick. They are designed to stand being discharged to a high percentage of their capacity without damage. Consult your local battery specialist for one that will give you enough power. Ours give a trade in price on your old one so take your old one along as a pattern.

That would do it, I made mine up, which saved money, but that intelligent relay is OK, and it is all fused, you will need a deep cycle battery.

Varta or Exide I use; stable and reliable. Yuasa good too altho I've had one cell failure under warranty - replaced immediately. I'd just put the biggest that will fit in the trailer battery compartment; biggest in terms of CCA and total Ah that is.

 

I've got a pair of Exide ER650s in a machine; 142Ah each in a 24v system. Marine grade which is good for the angles the machine encounters. One battery centre wanted £150 each or £280 for a pair. Timber Trail 4x4 did them for £102.50 each with free delivery...
