562/261 replacement

So the boss has given me the OK to price up a couple of saws. I'm not going down the Husky route because I just haven't been impressed with their latest offerings. Our 395 keeps rattling itself to bits (although secretly it's my favourite big saw because it's just a little bit raw), the 540 was just out and out pants and the 562 has followed down the same path. I'm going to have a crack on both the Echo and the Makita as my fave chainsaw man is now the main dealer plus you lot have given me some confidence that they are up to the job. I have to give my local Stihl guy a fair crack of the whip also so I'll see what offering he can come up with. Not sure what to do with the 261 to be honest but probably the parts bin.

Has anyone considered that stihl and Husqvarna make far more units than say echo or Makita/dolmar, and that there would inherently be more faulty saws with both leading brands due to fact their production is higher? only a controlled test would be fair so get whatever you feel is best for you.

That is of course a valid point, specially at a forum like this, as it is the cases where something bad happened that becomes a topic - regardless if the reason was the product or the operator (or a useless dealer/saw tech).

You seldom hear of all the Husky or Stihl saws that performed flawlessly year after year....

I've been in forestry/tree work for 30 years, stihls used to perform flawlessly but haven't done for 10 years,Huskies similar,if users are savvy and consider echo/Dolmar now they will get a reliable, powerful, warranted tool, what's not to like? Look at skoda/Hyundai etc, catch up is a challenge, staying at the top of the tree is obviously harder

This makes sense . A good analogy .
