My name or Business name . . .

If you decide to keep trading under your own name, just be aware that there is another Ian Geddes, tree surgeon in San Francisco!

What are the chances?

Yes, I have seen that before, I keep meaning to send him a message. I used to think when I was starting out that I would contact him and see if I could work in the U.S for a bit.

Just having a think on names, I will pop a few ideas up some time. Thank you for all the constructive replies.

Ian

I would go with your surname then a description as it's a good balance between professional and personal. For example we started of with my dad using his name selling firewood alongside the farm then we started a separate business called Hormann's Firewood which meant our older customers know who we are.

Also it helps in the bank when people make cheques out to your name for the business account.

Just realised you live close to one of my sisters - Liz.

That was a wise business move to get in on the RHI in the very early days.

I was up there end of last year and Tom showed me the effects of Ash Dieback on your young Ash trees - sad to see.

Small world . Regards

Thanks, the drying has really helped sales.

We've got a lot of different organisations looking at the trees so with the variety we planted and the monitoring that's already been done we'll hopefully get some information on trying to prevent the die back.

Feel free to stop by again.

I would welcome the chance to call in sometime thanks. Your Dad gave my Brother a tour of your grounds a few years ago when you were rearing birds. :001_smile:

It might be worth speaking to an accountant about the financial implications of becoming a limited company. Not sure whether anyone else has mentioned this. It can sometimes save a lot of tax if you get paid in dividends.

Yes, I have thought about this but not looked into it much. Some thing for once I feel a bit more set up I could look at.
