Sold unseen, no returns, no warranty,

 

Make sure you have a clear no returns section filled out on eBay.

 

Anything of any value I usually settle out of eBay and take a bank transfer as payment. You can agree with the bidder to settle up out of eBay you can sell it to them cheaper as there's no fees.

 

A degree of trust is needed however so I usually speak to them on the phone first. It's the only way to be 100% safe that your not going to get scammed.

 

We all know a saw can be wrecked almost instantly with malpractice.

 

I use eBay mainly for advertising purposes now. As sellers have zero protection.

 

As a buyer I'd refuse to deal with anyone who refused returns and wanted to settle out of eBay - there's a load of scammers on the selling side too.

I would say putting that the saw "Must "be used with two stroke oil in the fuel and that you will not except returns in your listing should about cover it . I would also put a instruction sheet in with the saw at despatch as a insurance policy as well.

Good point ...Thats worth adding in the info as I'm sure some folk will think they can come back to you "Months" down the line !

I haven't had this sorry situation happen to me with saws iv sold...Yet !

We put a Stihl 1 shot in with each saw. That does 4 things,

1. It makes the buyer aware he needs a 2 stroke mix

2. It ensures he has the correct oil to hand when he opens the box. No need for "I'll just pop to garage to buy some crap 2 stroke oil / use some crap I have here/ try it with some car oil to make sure its okay/ try it without any oil at all and if its okay then buy some oil"

3.Tells the buyer which oil to buy when he has used the sample up

4. Hopefully gives him enough oil to see him through the Ebay dispute period, then if he knackers it, its not coming back to bite me!

Higher value saws are sold on a classified advert as you deal directly with the customer, talk to him so you get an idea he knows what he is doing, cuts down on fees and returns plus we can suggest a more suitable saw if needed. Also fixed price fees

We are on the point of printing off an instruction sheet to go with all saws

Selling a saw as seen , no returns, or no Paypal is very unlikely to work as Ebay will soon over rule that if claimed as not described.

a lot of numpties out there, i sold a nice 268, 9 months later the guy contacts me to say the rope in the starter had snapped and wanted a refund !!!!!

ebay will always side with the buyer and all the user instructions won't change that i'm afraid. If you sell on ebay you run the risk of selling to chancers and idiots. Stating "parts or repair" and "no returns" is your only backup. It may cut down your perspective bidders but will keep you safer. A good write up with plenty of photos should counter act this to some extent. Also having been had on ebay before in similar situations, just explain on the listing that YOUthink the saw is in good usable condition but are listing as "parts or repair" to keep yourself right.
