Yeah, no, that's bad, he could've just gone round to the side, never be in the firing line of the bar when using one handed.

Sure, I hear you mate, but I suspect that pretty much any experienced climber has used a saw one handed so the other is free to push a lump off.

I notice on most tree work vids there's some comment or other about "you shouldn't do this or that".

Personally if I ever got round to editing any footage into a decent film I'd be apprehensive about posting it because I'd be having to justify every "unconventional" cut or action to a bunch of fresh outta college know it alls who know my job better than I do.

(That last part wasn't a pop at you at all by the way, just an observation)

No offence taken...

It could also be looked at as a reminder to the experienced peps out there to remind them they are not invincible and kickback from a chainsaw to a body part really hurts and always happens when you least expect it.

I remember time when a lot of climbers when they hit their 30's would happily cut and hold with their arm over the bar and end up having it kickback the underside of their forearms, although not life threatening I bet it hurts and they'd lose wages for a while, which could really hurt someone.

I even found myself doing that and had to really retrain myself to not do it.

Perhaps people should put their bad chainsaw technique into videos but highlight it. I remember college was loads of videos and stories of people making mistakes, I think its quite a good way to learn.
