Oversize Timber

I'm disposing of about 200t of timber for our local authority. It's mainly street tree timbers and consists of everything from Ash to sycamore to more exotic species like plane and acacia. There's also your typical cedar and pine in there. Comes in at mainly 12ft lengths. Not sure whether to parcel it all up, sell it in lots or simply get a company in to chip and take away for an agreed paid price per ton. Since these pictures were taken another 60t has come in from the recent storm, with about 20t of oversize cherry coming in today. Any pointers!

Ps. Too big for my firewood processor hence I'm not interested!

Could you find someone with a bigger processor. It seems a shame to chip it but if it's too big for commercial firewood processing then depending on moisture content you could sell it for biomass. Either sell in the round for stacking to dry or chip it to a customers spec and sell that way. We sometimes get softwood that size and shape for chipping as its not so popular. A good morning's work for a big chipper.

Some of the timber is over a metre across. There used to be staff to either mill it or process it but there all gone now. Just need to get the yard cleared before next winter!

Some of the large timber must millable, particularly cherry and the unusual timbers.

Why not hire in a large splitter to break down to processor size.

I bought 30 tons of over size beech 3-4' dia, it was cut, split and stacked in 4 days.

If you have no takers for firewood or milling and you do decide to chip it, Southern Wood Energy can handle that size. Fair way to come for 200 tonnes but they might be able to work it in with another job to ease the transport cost. Find your customer and agree a spec first of course. Ideally find someone with a big boiler and store that can take the whole lot in one hit.
