Hi all

I have a mak 9010, which is a bit underused. After talking to a gaffer at work, i may have the chance to do some milling. What i would like to know is what would be the most realistic set up for my saw. Apart from the saw i would have to start from scratch and buy everything over time. As well as the largest bar what would the smallest bar be. I'm sure someone recently put up a picture of one with an 18" bar.

cheers for any advice

Hey,

the smallest bar that you can use on that saw is a 16" and the largest a 36".

A 24" bar would most likely be ideal.

when you are milling,

make sure that your saw is tuned fat and that you let it idle for a min after each cut.

The best result will be achieved with a chain that is filed at 10*.

Take your time and let the saw do the work.

Its a fine saw. Big brute, solid and reliable, not fast cutting but plenty of muscle to power through most things. Mines underused so thinking about milling with it.

Ive got the ea7900 and even with all of the gubbins in the exhaust it is an absolute animal, specially when it warms up a bit. i would also like a medium size mill set up for it.. no idea which one to go for though!

Logosol timberjigg/basic is a good setup for 60-80cc saws.

I also have the 7900 and run it on a 28" bar and 36" (copy) alaskan mill. Like you say, they take a couple of minutes to warm and then clear their throat and let rip :thumbup1:

Thanks for the advice :001_smile: the price looks great, but in comparison to an Alaskan style mill maybe a bit of a faff to set up?
