Choosing a Mower advice.....

How are the honda's in the wet? any more worse than most or is it the Etesia is just particularly good at it.

Hi Buford , I have all but tried them all and to be honest they all have pro, cons, pitfalls and horrendous reliability issues , has to picking up in the Wet Honda's are Fantastic and so are Viking mowers has well has Kazz etc but the Hondas are just to Heavy for wet mowing and make a complete balls of the grass at the headlands of a lawn . I have a picture somewhere on this forum of a dozen mowers I use regularly on Commercial and Domestic and to be Honest I choose the Vikings now has they are user friendly and cheap/easy to repair, the only pitfall of the Viking roller mower is the rear roller diameter is just to small for mossy lawns .

Just remember lawns should be cut weekly in the growing season and folk buy these fancy mowers and expect miracles when cutting fortnightly, ie the Silver Hayter 48 pro I love and for me the best fine cut rotary mower out there used weekly, everyone slags these mowers off but forget the above mentioned.

What ever you choose will NOT suit every job you do .

Yea cheers, guess im trying to get something as close to the ultimate all rounder for my situation as possible becuase I won't be buying a second mower untill im established. I'm quite keen to give that mountfield a go but that the Honda is tried and tested making me think that would be better.

have you considered parts and spares, luckily for me I don't live to far away from a Stihl/Honda dealership... so parts and getting my equipment fixed are not a problem...

Another thing you might consider, is getting as big a mower as you can brand new, and look around for cheap second hand small one for the hard to reach jobs... getting up steps an such... or better still, don't do jobs that might involves to much faffing about to get to....

Tried and tested does not always mean better. The Honda, like many other roller mowers has a tendency to gearbox failure, and is a poor collector in wet conditions.

The Mountfield in question has been tried and tested by a control group before launch, and the results were excellent. The gearbox has been specifically chosen to be better than the rest, but of course, only time will tell.

For wet grass collection there are few, if any, roller mowers that will beat the John Deere R43RS, although only 17"

Mountfield spares availability is second to none.

I second Gardenkits view on the new Mountfield machine , we sell the Atco version , the Liner 19S V , same spec as Mountfield but fitted with a Briggs 675exi engine , the hybrid galvanised / alloy chassis is excellent , it also has the new "Twinclip" blade than no other manufacturer has , tried this in February @ a dealer day , collected wet grass fantastically , we purposely hammered the machine on the lowest setting and it performed very well .

Spares for this will be freely available as are all GGP parts .

Heavy duty uprated gearbox much bigger than the norm and takes only a tiny effort on the handlebar controls to engage drive .

Also as Barrie said Kazz machine is also very good , we supply this in Cobra branding as the RM48SPS £859.99 on offer .

Atcos not in the country yet , assume Mountfield is the same as both new products for 2016 , Atco is expected early April .

I really believe the KAAZ 21" is the best. I have been selling and mending mowers for over 30years and these have always been the stalwarts and remain pretty much unchanged.

  • 4 weeks later...

The New Stiga Twinclip 55 SV H 53cm 4 wheeled mower has at last arrived in stock!

And I have to say that I am very impressed. Well designed, well built and with a good 'feel' to it.

If you are in the market for a tough 53cm mower that comes in around £250 less than the KaaZ, then give this one some thought.

It has a 2 year Pro user warranty too....
