Looking for rubber gym mats

I think Mr badger is on about this stuff, it comes in 8x4 sheets and its about 1 1/2" thick ,its really light and very flexible . It does not soak up water and its tough. A mate gave me this sheet over ten years ago and I use it as a laying down mat aka (Gazunderboard :) ) when groveling around under tractors in muddy fields . Its some sort of rubberised aerated foam.

That's the one mate. Been looking around but for something under £60 per sheet is rare as rocking horse dodo it would seem. Then it's shipping which unfortunately is about the same price on top. I may just have to bite the bullet and splash my cash.

But ten years use on an oily floor and still going strong, sounds like it may just be worth the cost.

Thanks for clarifying what I was on about mate

Never had a problem with 8X4 ply sheets, painted with Unibond for waterproofing & for greenhouse roofs we cable tie two together. Tried (ex-school) gym mats but too heavy when wet...so dumped them.

A good point but I was just looking to try a new idea out. It may not be what I want but if I don't try I'll never know.

We use ply sheets for shed roofs, green houses ect. I think the rubber matting is a good idea but isn't the point to the ply sheets to have something that is hard so what ever hits it it doesn't go through it and just bounces off! I can see having the rubber mat underneath probably a good idea but I think sticking with ply would be a safer bet!

I would have said rubber matts would absorb the dropped branch or dead stob better. With ply sheets a stob from 50ft up would just put a hole in it where as rubber would take the stress better and absorb the energy. Just my thinking.

I personally think a rubber/foam mat by its self is a bad idea as it's too flexable. I recon some one should make a 'crash mat' which comprises of a tough fabric top layer (like what a trampoline is made from) 2" of rubberised foam and then a ply or a plastic alternative base. I recon that's what you are after.

Hey people I've been looking for 4 rubber gym mats to put on shed/greenhouse roofs etc when working. Been online looking for them but they are all silly money when you factor in the shipping costs (around £300) :-/.

Just wondering if anyone on here has used this kind of thing instead of boards and if you use them anyone know where to get them from? (on the cheep).

I've phoned round some indoor climbing walls and some gyms but no luck as yet.

Was looking for some 6x4ft 1" thick kind of thing, give or take.

If anyone has any ideas or thoughts it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance people. :-)

Stokbord could be the answer. 2.4 x 1.2m x 6mm about £26 & 9mm about £35 +VAT

The flexibility is a bonus though in my opinion. But I do like the idea, recycling it would be a nightmare though.
