I wouldnt worry its perhaps me thats expensive, but always seem to run out of logs!

Never undersell yourself, it sounds like you have some good quality firwood that should be properly seasoned, so £80 per cube delivered should not be a problem.

Out of interest, what price were you thinking of?

business is business but if you feel you are getting a fair price for your work then thats fine, prices and quality vary all over the country. as do customers. i would rather work twice as hard for a nice quick paying customer than do very little for a tight fisted money dodging git

My way of looking at it would be the cord would cost me £168 to buy in to produce 6cu metres. 3 hrs labour at £30 an hour plus another hr to deliver. cost of fuel to process, wear and tear on machinery, cost of white diesel to deliver.

thats probably why not made any money yet!!:confused1: i usually dont put the processor on the mog because it runs on white, use it for bringing the wood in and delivering it. have a fordson diesel major but its currently getting engine refurbed in my spare time. am trying to buy my own trailer when get saved up if i ever do that is.

You could put some changeover valves and run it on red while processing. Your trailer looks heaped as well. You could be surprised how much extra wood goes out when its a few inches above the top of the trailer. Its difficult getting money to pay for equipment when margins are tight. I saw a nice little david brown with 540 and 1000 pto sell at an auction for £1100 a week a go was tempted to get stuck in but did not need it and thought I would just push the price to 1500 for someone else

i looked into this with c&ex but found i couldn't have two diesel tanks etc as the potential was there to run on red when shouldnt.

Can you not have a quick release fittings and run off bulk tank in yard. When you are going back on road, flush red out by returning to red tank for a few minutes.

I generally tell people that the price will be the same wether we leave the timber or not: if we take it away the extra fuel and work is made up by the fact that we get to sell the fire wood, if they want to keep it we get an easier day or squeeze an extra job in.

I see firewood as a valuable sideline, but I would never work for just the wood. If you have employees firewood keeps them busy (and earning you money) when times are quiet or when you are on holiday.

Where I am sitting I can see £10K worth of already split seasoned logs sitting in my yard, all I have to do is market them and deliver them. Its a nice feeling to know they're there, especially as I don't know how things will be over the winter.

I also burn 25 cube a year myself so selling logs has alowed me to justify the cost of the splitter which otherwise would have taken a long time to pay for itself.
