Todays job and it will be next Saturdays job too the way its turning out , original gasket was a one piece steel job has the new ones are individual to each port ,been to machine mart today to pickup a flexible drill drive has only its the only way i am going to get in at them out without dropping engine out .

Easyouts on hand but i am reluctant to use them in case they Snap but time will tell when i start drilling them if they move , am going to get a engineer mate to grind a drill bit left handed first has the other Studs came out fairly easy .All this to be done under the Wheel arc :thumbdown:

Cant complain has the Truck is 15 years old and 130,000 miles and second time in over 8 years its sort of let me down .

So is that an alloy head? if so you will have to be real careful to keep the drill in the middle.

I suggest getting a good quality small drill like 3mm (dormer is good) and then take your time centre popping the stud and drilling the first couple of mil in the centre only then can you give it some beans.

You will be able to tell when the drill breaks through the end of the stud.

Then use progressivly bigger drils, you can buy left hand drills - I have some just for this sort of job.

It is really critical that you stay in the centre though.

Is it a metric thread or UNC? get a tap to clean it up after.

 

Oh! and if you can get someone to lean in the top, keep the drill square and just provide a gentle push on the drill it will be much easier.

any good engineering supply place should be able to get you left handed twist drills, there std fit on a lot of cnc machines, you can also get drill bushes that would fit into the hole and keep the drill centred, slow speed plenty of pressure and good cutting oil, a nice easy job, as long as you use quality drill bits !
