QTRA...is it worth it?

Der..... I was having a dim moment!!

It happens to us all! I have a habit of writing peoples initials instead of full names for no other reason than it was something I picked up in an office job I had many moons ago.

Just haven't lost the habit yet, it seems more efficient or economic somehow KJ!

Sorry to admit but I am laughing a little here! All just in fun of course...

Where do you have these frank exchanges? An earlier thread on here, UKTC or other?

Actually, I've not used UKTC (don't need another distraction!), but if there is worthwhile commentary that I'm missing, it may be time to start...

Initially while steaming at the Conference dinner. By email, at the QTRA course, on the QTRA users forum. But I've assured him of confidentiality, so that's that.

I can't comment on UKTC except to say that from what I know of you you might not get much extra from it. I find it quite TO-centric, but there are some brilliant minds on it who occasionally take the time to tell it the way it is.

Hey, I know the feeling. I described a tree the other day as "wxb, dbe wz, ruis, cfc wib at 2m rbc ldf with isolated sdd."

Der..... I was having a dim moment!! I wouldn't have got there unless you'd pointed it out though... I was away on a completely different thought thread!

It's gone a bit quiet on the QTRA messages since you eased back on the fight Jules!

I don't want to bring down QTRA, I'd like to improve it, and a certain proponent of it (not M.E.) makes it hard to like and I just ... can't .... stop ... MYSELF!

:lol::biggrin::lol:

Strange how QTRA's biggest advocate seems hell bent on alienating/belittling/bullying those who aren't. Suppose some people are just like marmite. biggrin:

I use many TLAs myslef (prize to the first who works that out) - have to be consistent and use the same ones all the time or it gets very confusing!

I've tried to work out yours, and aside from knowing the tree has some 'wibbly chlorofluorocarbons at 2 metres, with some isolated sadness' I'm not sure what your TLAs say!

Go on, enlighten us...

I've heard a lot about this, although never experienced it myself, but have to say, this is probably some part of a factor in why I am not that enamoured with QTRA - that and what I said earlier of course...

Hello.

does anyone have experience of the QTRA course? what kind of level is it at - Ive done tree risk assessments as part of other qualifications, but some u up coming potential contracts are looking favorably on those who have a completed a specific course dedicated to tree risk assessment.

My feeling is this thread has got a little too "high-brow" / intellectual / involved and a few references have been made back to the 'OP' (which I understand now is 'Original Post'...thanks KJ:biggrin:)

So, with reference to such, and has somebody who has done the QTRA training, but not a 'User', I would say "Tech Cert Arb" level, i.e. level 3/4. If you've done TRAs as part of other courses you'll be fine.

Enjoy..

Paul

I use a system of finda nd replace when I get back to teh office, so my abbreviations have to be letter compinations that aren't found in any other words. So that one is "Well buttressed, dense basal epicormics to the west. Reasonable intact upright stem, compression fork cluster with included bark at 2m, reasonably balanced crown largely defect-free with isolated small diameter deadwood." Good value.
