Dunno, £500 plus but get this - buy on in america and it's equivilent to £361 !!! :001_rolleyes:

I bought a 455 Rancher from the States a few years ago. By the time I'd paid carriage for within the Sates (to get the thing from supplier to airport), international carriage, import tax and carriage this end I ended up with £27 in my pocket when I re-sold it here!

Also I've seen it suggested that saws made for US use shouldn't be run here because of the difference in fuel? Could that be true or is it merely a matter of re-tuning to allow for the higher octane level here?

Can't believe US saws have different compression ratios than european models which is the reason for the RON and MON difference... CARB emission limits set them up real lean tho so we would probably need to richen them up... No wonder they port their saws more!

You're teacher talking to 5-year old thickie here... RON and MON...?

Cheers,

Jon

Sorry yeah. RON and MON - Research and Motor Octane Number. The higher the compression ratio the higher the combustion knock potential so the higher the knock resistance of the fuel must be. Higher RON = higher knock resistance. Back in the day, Tetra Ethyl Lead was both the valve seat lubricant and octance improver. Unleaded has been though the nasty benzene phase and now pretty much relies on oxygenates such as methyltertiarybutylether (MTBE) to raise octane. Lazy Yank V8s are typically low compression (perfomance and racing engines aside) and euro SIs are higher pressure buzz boxes!
