Well just ordered a Rope Wrench, Double end Tether and CT Foot Ascender, (hope my car doesn't need much for MOT )

Also sent an e-mail to Richard Mumford re. the SAKA

Thanks again Matty and Joe, no doubt I'll have many more questions, hope you have plenty of patience

Good man. I'm still getting to grips with it after years on ddrt.

Plenty of threads on here about it.

When funds allow it's worth getting a throwline kit for initial access. It's one of SRTs strong points that you don't have to isolate a branch like in DDRT.

Some things to think about. Both the HAAS and the SAKA have a strong following, they work way better than other knee ascender setups. The HAAS came out first and was revolutionary in that it stored the bungee in a tube below the ascender, first one to do so that I am aware of. The SAKA came out shortly afterwards with some changes and a new name and from what I have read has sold a fair number.

I find this whole situation awkward as these are not large corporations but individuals where even small numbers of sales can make a difference. I have a tendency to remain loyal to the originator of this ascender design because I thought it was such a great idea and think he should be rewarded for it.

The new Velox should be fantastic!

The throwline kit was sorted a while back after yet another series of questions here on the forum, ended up using kevlar kite line, sewed up my own throwbags and bought a Weaver Cube (couldn't quite stretch to an 'Arborella').

All in all the throwline kit was one of my less expensive additions :001_smile:

There are plenty of threads about SRT but the kit has evolved so quickly that a lot of the information is out of date to a certain extent.

I'll keep an eye on what you're doing.

I tend to agree but well I'll see what happens. Is that a Hitch Hiker you have in your Avatar, how does that compare to a Rope Wrench? it looks a lot more streamlined.

Well I'm really biased, I love the HH. Such a great tool, compact, indestructible and with a pulley as smooth as glass. Notice that there is nothing around the hitch. In use, the HH does not bend the rope. This means the friction does not change from the top to the bottom of a tree, or anywhere in between. I have climbed on all the currently available SRWP tools and some still being developed. Of the ones currently available, for me, the HH2 is the best. This picture is with the HH2 clipped to my chest harness for ascent.

Understand where you're coming from. I too like to support the original maker where possible. I suspect as with anything though, whichever ones cheaper will take the market share
