Did a couple of hours of processing today. Had a load of sycamore and some decent willow to do. Really not been in the mood for log cutting chopping/ processing lately but it needs doing!

How has everyone else been getting on?

Do you only sell hardwood or do you do softwood as well?

Logs have been going out the door at a steady rate. Loads of people wanting 50/50 mix which is always good. Softwood promoting seems to be working :thumbup1:

Good to hear!

Yeah we sell it mixed as our wood is mostly from abreast, I'd say on an average each bag is probably 60-80 percent hardwood. We vert rarely have problems with selling softwood. My guess would be that most people don't find an issue with seasoned softwood, and probably couldn't tell the difference and the other reason being price, If they want just hardwood other suppliers near us charge around 120 a bulk bag for it, so I think they prefer to give the mix of hard and soft a go!

Do you sell the willow in with all your other hardwood?

We very rarely get willow in but a lot of it I use to keep and burn ourselves but I found when dry it burnt perfectly ok so we do mix a little but in, but there's such a small amount if u averaged it out you probably get one piece per bag!

Hopefully link above works.

Was processing some decent size lumps the other day, probably about 16" diameter, should of had the 8 way splitter head on but made do with the 4 way. Just meant putting the big lumps back through, but there was only 4 lengths of wood this size so it all worked out fine in the end!

Yeah as long as it's dry it burns well and hot, leaves a load of ash in my experience though. Takes for ever to dry naturally though!

Most customers wouldn't be able to tell one wood species from another anyway but I'd only include it in mixed hard/soft bags.

Yeah that's very true, and that's what we do as we only sell mixed loads, unless someone asks for just hardwood which I think has happened probably about 5 times in the 5 years we've been doing it

I wish we had your customers, tried everywhere to sell softwood and I can't get rid of it. Of the thousand tons we sold in the last year 3 were softwood.

On the processing side of things we're still busy cutting, just tried a rotatech chain and it's done 38cube of 9 inch so far so I was really impressed.
