The thickness of the aluminium extrusion rails is 2.1mm thick on my alaskan. This might be an odd metric equivalent of an imperial size. What is the thickness on the Chinese copy?

Just using a metal rule, they are a smidge over 2mm. Not put it together yet, will do that tomorrow. Doesn't appear cheap and nasty on first impressions.

Hi, haven`t got my alaskan to hand but 2.1mm equates to 0.0827" which isn`t really any imperial size either, just about half way between 5/64" and 3/32", but a fair assumption as most American stuff that I see is still in feet and inches with unified / AF bolts.

Hard to tell the quality but from the pics I would have taken it for the real thing, maybe differences will be more obvious up close.

Are there any cast metal parts on the real thing?

Yep, the yokes that clamp the rails together are castings if I remember correctly, it all looks very similar.

Got mine n put it together but not had time to try it yet and works gone so mad I don't think I'll get the opportunity to use it for a few weeks at least😟

Will try to find time at the weekend to use it. They do seem well built and sturdy. I was expecting it to have that "budget" feel about it, but it hasn't. It all goes together accurately and the depth gauge measuring marks are pretty spot on. The company seem good to deal with and when you think that they mainly make ramps for wheelchair users, they can't afford to use low grade materials.

Used it today with no problems. Only cut eleven 7' spruce boards, but nothing came loose or fell off and I can't see why I won't get good long term service from it.

Had a go today on a small bit of yew,

as above nothing came loose and seems sturdy enough, I'm well chuffed wi it!😀
