Hi all,

I'm off to check out at Vermeer 625I 6'' chipper and was wondering if any of you have previously owned one and what I should be looking to check out when I have look. It will be my first chipper and though i've plently of experience with chippers in general I don't have any with Vermeers but gather they are really well made. This one is a 2000 model I believe and has 1240 hrs on it.

Any help very much appreciated. Cheers, Thomas

diesel. I think it's a 3 cyl Perkins?

Definitely no door handling it then, the petrol is not quite so top heavy (less likely to tip).

On the plus side the Perkins vermeer combo makes a particularly good machine, small and powerful (relatively)

The single feed roller can be a bit disappointing on wet conny but yoy soon learn the art of not over feeding it. It works best kept in sharp order.

HSE compliance. Other than that there's not a lot to go wrong. All bearings are large and easy to access for service or replacement just look for the same stuff you would when looking at any machine/ vehicle for obvious issues oil condition etc etc.

Great, thanks for your feedback! Ah, it's quite unstable then! Is there anything you think I would do well to particularly check? Cheers!

They have a narrow track so chucking then round corners can be "interesting"

Take a mechanic with you if you aren't confident with the spanners, assume the breaks need attention because in a machine of that age you will be lucky if they don't. Other than that just what the others have said

Cheers guys, very helpful. Am I right in assuming that the 24hp diesel fitted isn't an original engine? Weren't these originally fitted with petrols? Does anybody have recommendations of where I should go for parts? Thanks again!

The engine will be original, the machine came with a choice of diesel or petrol engines

For parts Vermeer or a lot of parts are available after market. You can get brake parts from many trailer suppliers.
