Battery + Stop light flickering

Hi,

I've got a 04 kangoo, 1.5DCI

About a month a go the stop and battery light flickered on and off again, didnt think much of it.

Now recently it stays on longer and longer, although never when im on the motorway or when idling....:001_huh:

It seems to be linked to the accelerator I.e when I accelerate it flickers on and when I take my foot off the pedal it leaves.

It starts and runs fine and today I made several short journeys and a long hour + commute, with no problems but the light.

I'm thinking dodgy connection at the alternator?

What do you think?

If it is a poor connection on one of the heavy cables coming from the alternator you should sort it soon as losing connection when the alternator is charging can damage the rectifier.

It could be that a diode in the rectifier has a bad connection or is on the way out.

An alternator takes around 2 hp depending on its output. Normally has a small diameter pulley so it runs fast at low engine rpm. The result of this is it can slip when accelerating or heavy load if the belt it not tight enough. Needs to be tighter than you would think especially if it's a multi v and had some wear. Check it before you rip anything apart or spend money.

The rectifier is something inside the alternator? I'm not a mechanic but trying my best to get my head around it. :thumbup1:

Yeah, the rectifier converts the alternator ac to dc, mostly hidden inside but sometimes they hang them on the back of the alternator for better cooling.

As above check your belt, connections and cables if that doesn't fix it then probably and alternator fault.

So I'm still chasing electrical problems with the kangoo, I had it hooked up to a diagnostic which showed no faults, and although the battery and stop light still flicker, she still runs fine.

I blew a fuse recently for the indicators, changed it and all was well until today I jump in, no indicators. fuse is still good. after a while the right turn starts working but the left is still having none of it. All through this the hazards work fine, so no bulb issues.

Any ideas? I dont want to go round changing relays and indicator stalks, if this all points to the master board and the thing is essentially FUBAR...
