Thinking of doing a nptc hedge laying course! Anyone done this course? What did you think? Also was wondering if any of you guys offer it as a service? I have been asked to do it before and i know that it is a dying trade so wondering if it would be a good string to my bow. Please feel free to give your opinions:thumbup:

.... most of the types of laying are pritty easy, but midland is the hardest. what takes the skill is the binding on top (midland) what to cut out of the hedge and what to leave in. myself and some friends are thinking about teaching it would people be interested ?

have a look at the hedgelaying sociaty

There's a 1 day course being run by Rural Development Programme for England near Battle in East Sussex at the end of November, £80 or £24 if you work in Agriculture, Forestry or related. Looks pretty good, full details on the Woodlots website. Quite a few other good 1 and 2 day courses on there.

I have been hedgelaying for a few years now and stil do annual training days/courses to keep on top of styles I don't practice all the time. Try looking at your local BTCV group, I did a two day course earlier this year as a registered volunteer, it cost about £18 and resulted in a NCFE certificate! VERY CHEAP. Also try contacting your local hedgelaying group as they often have training days and regular competitions (in season of course) which keeps you in practice & are good for meeting like minded individuals.
