Equipment storage again!

Just a tip on shipping containers, a gas axe (oxy acetalyne) is very quiet, and I can gas a container open in about 30 seconds. (this is the voice of experience. )

The way to prevent this is to have a lock box made out of stainless or boiler plate, as this would take about 1/2 an hour to gas through. Use a good quality padlock, as a cheap one can be melted in seconds.

Yeah that's true. I've got a stainless lock box and a £85 padlock. Also, the doors have got keyed locks on them aswell. You should always remember to fit extra security to the items inside the container aswell, i.e. wheel clamps on chippers, link all of your smaller machines together with a chain and lock them to the floor. If used properly these containers are extremely secure, and unless you're going to start storing gold bullion in there, it's unlikely anyone would ever go to the extreme lengths of breaking in there.

I think the man who does our welding is going to use boiler plate or similar to repair the container. We had five heavy duty padlocks, one armoured, the thieves tried tooling one of the locks, then just cut through all five of them and the laches. We were robbed sometime afrer midnight (gamekeeper left then) and seven in the morning (gamekeeper returned), so half an hour to gain access does not matter as no one is around between those hours (Friday night), and noise is not an issue, as there are not any neighbours closeby.

how did they cut through the padlocks? you obviously haven't got a quality lock box.

It's a case of this mate, one man designs a security system , another man hatches a plan to beat it! and until this poxy government comes down hard on crime, hard working idiots like us will be sitting ducks for theives.

I own a few acres of land but wouldn't put a container on it as Ed says you can be in one in minutes using a mini gas cutting kit..

Sorry to hear about you getting tunrned over Zen, death to theives I say! DEATH!

Thank you, Roller.

It made us all sick to our stomachs. Not so much the theft of things, but that they took our story...each saw, each tool, had a story, from the littlest to the 3120xp.

Mind you, new for old should work out favourably, and that it occurred as we were winding down for the year, as opposed to busiest season, lessened the impact somewhat.

I've been here for 10 years. In the first month, I caught some lowlife scum trying to break into the workshop. I let them have both barrels over their heads, and set the dogs after them. Not been bothered ever since. I'm quite friendly with the local pikies, and they told me my place has a reputation of being owned by a homicidal nutter :D

With a shipping container, its quite easy, There was a firm round here with a container with super posh lock boxes. The thieves just went in through the side with a gas axe. If the location is remotish and they have access to a gas axe you can be in a container in minutues without even touching the locks! A gas axe is almost silent.
