How on earth did they arrive at those figures? Did they offer to tarmac your drive as well?

Bob

Can't mind on exactly but the cambelt kit included a water pump and a tensioner so that was almost £200 the truck was on the ramp a day and they charge £40 plus vat p hour. It soon adds up.

Recon gearbox which includes transfer box from from Ivor searle was 2500, the ford one was 2700. The flywheel was 700 clutch/pressure plate 200 again oils etc plus labour! Again it soon adds up!

I think ideas like the dual mass flywheel have a lot to answer for

Yes they seem to be universally disliked.

On the transits the 140ps models seem to come with solid clutches as standard as that is what is supplied for the conversion, though I think you have to change the front pulley to compensate.

I was more referring to brake disc and drums, the modern friction materials are harsher on them, causing more wear than previously, presumably because pressures need to be higher.

The main function of the dual mass seems to be to soften the driveline, this is all well and good for a people carrier variant but is problematic in vehicles that are "put to work"
