why do some people take the stihl/husky debate so seriously?

if its just a case of defending what you own because you paid a hefty wad of cash for it and need to rubbish the opposition to justify the price then that's ok, but some people take it a bit too far, and would be buyers don't get the best advice if its coming from a diehard. Don't want this to degenerate into a debate over what saw is better as both seem to be able to create crap, then claim they are for the "domestic market". Just curious as to why people get all pissy about it?

On another note say a mid sized pro grade saw costs £600 new, and a similar cc machine from the same manufacturer for the domestic market costs half that, does it cost half as much to make, is that not like saying "we could have made this saw into a good reliable machine, but thought stuff it lets bake a turd!

I would say that's anything but ok, if someone has only ever used one make of saw and has had generally good experiences of the brand then they should give advice based on that rather than rubbishing brands with which they have no experience. Anyone can go on to the Chainsaw section of the forum and find a thread dealing with the failings of almost any saw.

As far as justifying your purchases to other people, why?

<shrugs> Dunno, but that's what some folks do. It's the same no matter what you get involved in, be it Skiing, cycling, climbing, digging holes...... </shrugs>

I know, I've seen it before, you get it on every internet forum specific to any subject known to man. Guess there must be a lot of sheep out there.

It kinda seems ar$e about face, the punter pays the manufacturer but feels that he owes loyalty rather than the other way around, strange indeed.
