aspen 2

I got some free as part of an intro offer, and it made my saws do all kinds of funny things. My Ms200t sounded like it was running out of fuel all the time with no power. So i adjusted the low screw which worked then it did it again! I contacted the supplier who told me i needed to change some of the seals in the carb!!! Why would i do that when its cheaper to but normal fuel which works really well!!!!!

You really want to use it in a machine from new as someone has already said. Aspen tends to clean all the soot etc from the engine and this can then cause problems.....

Well for the price of the aspen fuel if we but ten litres do we get a free ms200?

All my saws are old and work well, if we get a scrappage scheme going for them i might be interested in using it. I have owned my saws for over a year, and am the registered keeper!!!!!!

Use Aspen for last couple of years and allways will.

I dont do 'forestry' type cutting though. To put it into perspective last job £650, Aspen used - about 4ltrs. I think I can justify this for the benifits to me and my saws (and I also use bio chain oil at 2x the price of normal!)

I buy it from my husqy/stihl dealer so we both know I am running saws on the correct mix!

I am very interested in using Aspen fuels but as an Environmental management student I am curious about where Aspen is imported from. As well as being better for your health, the blurb does state that it is better for the environment.

This may be the case but I have a feeling that once you cost in the energy required to package, import and transport fuel which is not refined in the UK in comparison to re-filling your re-usable fuel canisters at your local fuel station, I bet it would shock us all.

At present the UK rep cannot supply this information. Which again also indicates that the company as awhole is not aware of the larger environmental issues. I will let you know what the result is. Unless anyone else has researched into this.

Those of you who use Aspen. What do you do with the empty packaging? Is it recycleable or landfill?

A good point but just as valid for the 2st mix you will put in normal fuel!

Richard, not the same as 2stroke mix as the fuel you buy is mostly refined in the UK. Aspen is refined in Sweden and travels all the way here by boat and road. No packaging waste when you fill up at the fuel station, although Aspen packaging is recycleable. However does your local authority recycle it?

I did ask the Aspen rep about it and he did eventually give me a full reply. At first though I have to say he was a bit "stand offish" in his language. As in, how dare I ask about the bigger environmental picture.

The reason I asked is, the current advertising claims that it is better for your health, which I agree with. However it also states "Environmentally friendly". I consider our environment to be the planet as a whole. Considering the work we do with trees has large positive and negative effects on the national carbon sink, i think we should consider the bigger picture.

After all this I have decided to consider the use of Aspen. Primarily because it is refined from the waste gas of the original refining process, which I deem as a big plus. Presumably it is otherwise "flared off". Note however that I did ask the Aspen guy to send me a price for 205l plus delivery to my postcode......

......no reply.

I got into using Aspen and bio chain oil because the fumes were killing me on a chainsaw mill... that in itself was worth the extra money for me.

But you can't get away from the massive amount of waste plastic with the thick 5l containers... there is no way it is better for the environment and the company does not recycle them... I have asked repeatedly for a non spill cap to screw straight onto the 5l containers - you always spill a bit transferring into your own non spill - but no joy... I think they do the Husqvarna one which lasts about 3 months before jamming - not going back to them again.
