what size generator do i need to power my kindlet 240 volts single phase

It's a rule of thumb, the start-up surge on an inductive load like a saw or splitter is only momentary, so matching capacity exactly might risk damaging both bits of kit, three times would be overkill, two times sounds a reasonable compromise.

Plus it gives an extra bit of oomph if the kindlet gets snagged on something tough.

4 kva minimum. We run ours at shows etc on one of those orrible 5.5 kva Kama/ kipor diesel Chinese things. And it handles it nicely even on knots.

 

How much are 4 or 5 kva diesel generators

We don't sell the Chinese stuff but you can pick them up on eBay for about £900 sometimes they last years if looked after often they last 15 minutes .

 

We sell a pramac p6000s last time I looked it was about £2500.00 +vat genuine yanmar engine and really quiet.
