DIY log splitter

Has anyone ever made their own log splitter. In principle they seem simple.......engine, ram, pump and some decent steelwork.

I'm tempted to have a go at getting one made. Anyone been tempted to do this before and ACTUALLY done it. What was the resulting machine like?? Any tips and advice???

Thanks to you all.

Managed to get some picks of my log splitter. As I said yesterday it's the 3rd incarnation of this machine, but it seems to work well. The bar carrying the lights etc. is removeable for working.

That's a great machine Bob, it's exactly what I had in mind, and towable too!!! Did you make it yourself, or get it fabricated?? Do you mind me asking roughly what it set you back.

I really need to address my logging situation this year, and I reckon something like this could really get us on our way!
