Ground mulcher

Hi guys been offered a project, part felling part clearing an area of failed crop that has been taken over by, mainly, bramble head height and the area of 2 football fields in order to replant with mixed broadleaf.

any ideas what the most cost effective (and quick) way to deal with bramble city?

been thinking of a ground mulcher - as lots of fallen dead timber in amongst it all which also need getting rid.

any ideas guys

ta:confused1:

ta james, :thumbup1:had thought of a flail but wasnt sure if it would cope with the hidden timber?

the areas pretty flat. bit muddy here and there - but where isnt.

£300 is that including opperator - guessing their pretty simple to run any how.

any one in south wales got one out for hire?

tracked skidsteer with mulcher head if site is dry with no real hard gradients, easily copes with brambles and trees upto 4 inch diameter. i pay 300 per day for a 110hp tracked skidsteer and fae mulcher. you will easily do that amount in a day

Thats a good price. Is that from Copards?

at college we did this with a tractor and flail, worked well, the tractor has a loader on so had that close to the ground and moved bits of timber with that before it hit the fail

mulchers are cool, and can cover a lot of ground, if the fallen stuff is old then it will balst threw it, you might come across some bigger harder stuff, but just shove it to the sideand come back to it at the end of the day. or fence it off with electric and throw in some pigs and come back in a fortnight:thumbup1:

300 is for the machine alone hire alone you will then pay delivery if you havent the means to transport it yourself.

like most vehicles they are easy to drive but to get a good effect takes a little more practice. i did a clearance job in a school with 14ft tall brambles and couldnt see sod all as i was going throught it but in the end when i was done it looked like a good consistent level without clumps of material left

yeah it is mate, last time i had from them i asked for it to be sent on their small plant lorry and it turned up on a quad axle artic so muggins here has to track it a half mile through london streets.......oh the looks i got at the lights

Yeah, they gave me a good price on a machine for a week, but the haulage up north was a killer.

Raked and burnt with the excavator, just as quick in the end:001_smile:
