not sure of the model but we had on demo a ride on john deere ride on, diesel, hydrostatic, good tip action. 4 wheel drive.

was amazing for mowing and hoovering up leaf off tar roads etc.

hopefully we buy one in spring cause it was great on our slopes, well beyond what manual says you should do, easily 40 degree slopes we went along sideways, i was scared but it felt solid.

If you are going to do some paddock mowing then stay clear of Domestic style mower , you will burn belts out quicker than you can think .Countax/Westwood are excellent mowers for Domestic use but awful for heavier grass and plagued to death with puncture's!

Has mention above Stiga out front mowers are well built and very manoeuvrable , has for Kubota's they are well up to the job but much heavier and expensive same too with John Deere's built for the job .

Has for mulching , great when its bone dry and cut regular but makes a balls of a job when its wet and tall .

Ste

Thanks. Fair point about the domestic mowers. I don't think the mulching is negotiable though. Simplicity mulcher is used at the moment but a bit more area will be added soon so I have been tasked with finding an upgrade.

I'll have a look thanks Barrie. Really ought to be diesel though as we have it on site and fetching petrol in cans is another job on a long list.

BTW. I did sense your slight dislike of Westwoods transmissions yesterday.

I sort of agree as a couple of the most used mowing gears are showing signs of wear on my machine and I did have to replace a half shaft on the one at work but that had reason to shear unlike the lightly used one in my picture. Normally I do use a smaller two wheeled timber style trailer but I had a lot to shift that day.

I have not sold a Countax or Westwood in about 8years and have not missed them at all.

It seems that many committed dealers have refused to sell them this year as they have apparently been big trouble, but I don't know quite what the problems are.

Are you looking for new or used? What budget?

Sounds good. Do you happen to know if they do a mulcher version?

OK Getting convinced on Countax quality or lack of.

Normally new but I wouldnt rule out demonstrator type hours.

I need to put a budget figure in next years expenditure. Probably most important to pick the right machine and argue about money at the meeting. £8 to12k but nothing is set in stone.

Thanks David. Just had a look on gardenkits web site and there was a JD mulcher there.

The mowers listed on my website only go to the X500 series, with petrol engines. This is due to us being a 'Homeowner dealer' and not being involved in the bigger, Pro, kit.

You will be needing a 700 series, or 900 series machine, but I fear you may want to up your budget a little.

I have used a number of ride ons over the years, all were on site when I got there, really all depends what you local dealers are able to support in the end.

Countax C800 Petrol on for medium lawns, brush, cut n collect

Countax 2050A Petrol use this on pony paddock as well, brush, cut n collect on fine lawns

Iseki SXG19 3 cyl Diesel 50cu collector amazing! great with leaves, on tarmac as well

John Deer X320 Mulcher, Petrol, use this 5hrs at a time mowing, 15 litres of petrol,24 months old no breakdowns!

Haytor Hydro 72 (for the animal in you)

So its a bit of this and that really, some diesel, some mulcher, am sure one make must do it all.
