16" chain/bar question

hey folks ordered a 16" Ozaki bar and an 'Oregon 22LPX062E Super Chisel Chain .325" Pitch 0.063" Gauge - 62 Drive Links' from separate ebay sellers. Both came in their original packaging but the chain doesn't fits around the bar. Now there is nothing to indicate the bar length on the bar itself but when measured against a Stihl bar which is clearly stamped 16", both are the same length and the chain won't fit the Stihl bar either. Before contacting anyone I just want to check it is the chain for sure. Is 62 drive lengths the correct number for a 16" bar?

I'm presuming from the fact that you are using 0.063" gauge that it's for a Stihl saw which takes .325" pitch as standard (something like an MS261?). If so, you need 67 drive links.

I have just counted the drive links on a chain off an MS250 with a 16 inch stihl bar and as TGB says, it is 62 drive links (0.325" pitch). The drive links on a 16 inch bar for an 026 is 67 drive links. The bar mount for an MS250 with the "no tool chainsaw adjuster" is quite different to that of eg an 026 with a screw adjuster and I guess this is what makes the difference. In what way does the chain not fit ? Too short ? Doesn't match the nose sprocket (e.g. different pitch) ? What model of saw is it and what type of chainsaw tensioner does it have ? A picture would help.

Hi

I have the smae MS250 with 14" & 18" bar, its 0.063" (1.6mm) gauge

14" bar = 56 links

16" bar = 62 links

18" bar = 68 links

For some reason the bars are slightly shorter, but I dont think its to do with the easy tension thing - mine dosnt have it, but if you check the chain for an MS260 its longer on all bar sizes

see Chains & select your chain

Hello flatyre, if you have problems returning your 62 drive link chain, then I will do you a swap.I am making some chains up tomorrow for my saws and I can make you up a 67 drive link chain from 0.325" pitch. 0.063" gauge Stihl full chisel chain, PM me your address if interested and I will post you one out. The 62 drive link chain will fit things like an 028 with a 15 inch bar so you may have friends locally who could use it on other saws or perhaps yourself if you have a 15 inch bar for your 028. If you take a look at the following website, then you can see what Stihl saw/bar combinations use 62 drive links:

and a Husky list is here:
