Dont know all the correct implement terms, but I had a D9 in behind me clearing an orchard, he had a monster 3 pronged plough thingy on the back and a sifty type blade up front. He literally ploughed up the tree stumps, then pushed them up in a heap with the sifty blade thing. All the root debris was lifted successfully, a nice clean site for re-planting. The 3-pronged ploughy thing went in about a metre.

Reading this post with some interest..

I am waiting to hear back about a job where we will have to completley remove the stumps and the only cost effective way if doing it that I have been able to find is either:

Excavator and then tub grinder - (very expensive!!)

or tracked stump grinder which is still expensive, but works out a good bit cheaper than the tub grinder, but..... horses for courses, our job is on the side and top of a short bank about 7m wide and 400m long so I need mobility as access will be tight on the site boundary but if you're effectivley doing a clear fell then I would get an excavator in to lift all the stumps and pile them all up together and the organise a crane fed tub grinder to come in and get the whole lot.
